Yes, JIP CC&C does allow the Companions to be Essential, however I also wanted the Caravans to be Essential, (so Tinker Joe will have no chance of dying before I can get Sargent RL-3, lol,) and the Essential Companions is a requirement for the Essential Caravans. but I didn't want to mess anything up that way so I decided just to have it on there because it's required, lol.
